Practical questions clients often ask
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. We offer a complimentary consultation (phone or video) so you can tell us a little about what brings you to counseling, ask questions and get a feel for whether working together seems like a good fit.
Where do you see clients?
In-person appointments are available in Lisbon and Mafra. We also work with clients online throughout Portugal. Location details are provided when an appointment is scheduled.
How often will we meet?
The frequency of sessions depends on what brings you to counseling and what we’re working on together. Some clients meet weekly at first and then shift to every other week as things stabilize. Others begin by meeting every other week. As the work progresses, meeting once a month may be appropriate for maintaining progress.
How long does counseling usually last?
There is no predetermined number of sessions. Some people come with a particular issue they want to address in a brief format, while others are working through more complex or longstanding challenges. We will talk about what makes the most sense initially and revisit the conversation as the work progresses. Ultimately, you decide when the work begins and ends.
Do you accept insurance?
No. Kassel Counseling is a private-pay practice and does not bill or accept insurance.
How is payment handled?
Payment is due on the date of service and is currently made by bank transfer. An invoice will be provided for each session and includes IVA (VAT).
What is the cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice and "no shows", as well as missed appointments, are charged at the regular session fee.
Do you work with children or teenagers?
Our practice currently works only with adults. Adult Family Counseling may include parents and their adult children, siblings or other adult family members.
